And in this wondrous sea of consciousness, there are many megacities that offer community, opportunity, and identity. The following is a list of the ten largest metropolitan areas (in terms of estimated population for 2022). At first glance, they may seem overwhelming. But each of these special organisms can provide subtle filters for a lifetime, gradually revealing new treasures in every street, canal, market, monument, etc. You just have to dive in.

By far the most populous metropolitan area in the world, Tokyo, Japan has a life of its own. The country's capital is located on the east coast of the islandHonshu, in the Kanto region.
