For the third time in PGA Tour history, six players entered a playoff, with Kisner winning the second hole via sudden death.

Kevin Kisner's playoff record made less sense than any other on the PGA Tour. When Kisner emerged victorious in a six-player playoff that set a PGA Tour record at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club on Sunday, Kisner had lost all five in which he had played. is that in the midst of all those losses in the playoffs there was a victory in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, the biggest and best head-to-head event in the world.
Kisner was incredible on Sunday, making two of his last three regular holes to hit 15-under and join a front-running crowd consisting of Adam Scott, Si Woo Kim, Roger Sloan, Kevin Na and Branden Grace, but not Russell Henley. . Henley led after the first three rounds, but missed two putts from under 4 feet on the back nine to finish at T7. It was a brutal ending to an incredible performance from him.
Halfway through the first hole of the playoffs, Kisner looked cooked. Scott hit his approach to 4 feet (more on that below), and Kisner had to walk in front of the green. He almost got a 3 out of there and Scott ended up losing. All six players paired up.
Rick Gehman, Greg Ducharme and Kyle Porter vent and react to Kevin Kisner's victory at the 2021 Wyndham Championship. Follow along and listen to The First CutPodcasts de ApplemiSpotify.
On the second playoff hole, Kisner landed the tournament shot, a leg kick, and a 3-foot racket strike for the win. He buried it and spent the next few minutes shaking hands with every player and caddy on the turf, like at the end of an NHL playoff game. It was a hilarious (and amazing) end to the PGA Tour regular season.
It was also a great finish to the regular season for Kisner, who has now finished in the top 10 at three of his last five PGA Tour events and is in perfect timing playing some of the best golf he's played in 2021. Coming into the Playoffs of the #29 FedEx Cup (top 30 make it all the way to the Tour Championships), he is now officially on the radar of the US Ryder Cup teams where he would certainly be a popular choice.
It's unclear how these two paths evolve (or converge), but Kevin Kisner, literally and figuratively a bulldog, has now done what you'd expect him to do. He won a playoff event that was the biggest since 2001 and the most in PGA Tour history. What that means for the future is unclear. At the moment, that means a three-time PGA Tour winner is now a four-time PGA Tour winner, and Kisner has won consistently at the highest level over the past six years (wins in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021). , which is as impressive as it is difficult.Note: A+
Here are our remaining notes for the Wyndham Championship.
Adam Scott (T2):Scott probably should have won this tournament on the first hole of the playoffs. His 65 on Sunday was good and he was hitting absolutely all day, but a 4-foot pull on that first playoff hole cost him the win. Still, this is his first top 2 finish since early 2020 as he tries to refocus on life as one of the world's top pros since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It's always fun to watch Scott play well, and a little momentum could mean he's a big factor in the FedEx Cup playoffs that start next week.no tea

Russell Henley (T7):Sunday proved difficult for Henley, who somehow led after each round but then fell short of what would have been a record seven outs. Henley missed some terribly short putts, including one on the last par hole, which really undid how well he played all week. It's a reminder of how small the margin between winning and losing is, and it must be overwhelming for Henley, who must have thought to himself, 'I've played four rounds in a row so well and still haven't gotten my first. winning four years ago." Great pick to make some noise in the FedEx Cup playoffs, but this near miss will probably hurt for a while.no tea
– Justin Ray (@JustinRayGolf)15. August 2021This is the 13th consecutive PGA Tour event in which a player has won in the final.
The last player to hold and win the 54-hole lead/co-lead was Phil Mickelson at the PGA Championship.
JustinRose (T10):Incredibly, it appears a three-shot on the final hole of the tournament put Rose 126th in the FedEx Cup standings and out of the playoffs, and propelled Chesson Hadley to 125th after a 62-shot win Sunday. Rose isn't losing his PGA Tour card, but for someone who just won the FedEx Cup three years ago, participating in the last regular season event of the year is a tough ride, especially after playing all week and Real Madrid. Chance, he had to win the tournament at the end of the final round.Serie B-
David Lingmerth (T37):Lingmerth, who started the week outside the top 200 in the FedEx Cup standings, was relegated to Q-School instead of the Korn Ferry Tour finals only to get his Korn Ferry Tour card back. Everyone from 126th to 200th in the final FedEx standings has at least a chance to claim their PGA Tour cards by finishing in the top 25 at the Korn Ferry Tour finals, but Lingmerth was left out. He had to qualify for this tournament on Monday before going 68-67 to make it through the weekend. He finished Sunday with a 67 at No. 199 in the FedEx rankings, just shy of the magic number, and will head to the Korn Ferry Tour finals next month, no doubt rejuvenated by the fact that he's just off the top. top 1000 in the world. The world ranking was a month ago. That T37 finish was his third of four starts on the PGA Tour, and he needed all of them to mark another month.Note: A+
Hideki Matsuyama (MC):Despite a late penalty on Friday, Matsuyama was the biggest disappointment of the week. He warmed up properly and nearly won at WGC-FedEx St. Louis last week. Jude Invitational at TPC Southwind, but his location let him down, preventing him from hitting the ball up the backboard over the weekend. He heads into the FedEx Cup playoffs next week with plenty of momentum, but if the tournament favorite doesn't play on the weekend, the result will be a bummer.Noted
